Museum-Grade 1920s Art Deco "French Ivory" Evening BagAn exceptional survivor from the mid-1920s, this evening bag represents the height of Art Deco luxury. It features a heavy black silk body completely transformed by dense, metallic gold corded embroidery (couching) and a spectacular hand-carved celluloid frame.
The frame is made of thick, high-quality "French Ivory" celluloid. The top lid features a deeply carved mandala/stylized floral motif with its original red and orange pigment highlights still vibrant and intact.
The Body & Workmanship:
Embroidery: The body is covered in a swirling, dimensional gold metallic cord pattern. Unlike cheaper tinsel threads, this heavy couching has maintained its luster and structural integrity.
Condition: Pristine. The celluloid is free of "rot," crystallization, or yellowing. The silk body is strong and stable. Some minor wear from age is possible.
Era: Circa 1924–1928.
Handle: Original silk cord/celluloid chain.
